Olivier Cazenave - BordeauxMaker
Today, I have decided to take a new step forwards, to take on new challenges, and with the ambition of making even better wines. Wines that will leave their mark on palates and minds, wines that impress with their quality, their terroir-inspired character, and their accessibility. Wines that restore Merlot’s former dignity and nobility; so criticized, yet so much the source of some of the greatest existing wines.
The aim is to propose a great choice of the various terroirs from the right bank, on clay-limestone, clay, clay-loam and sandy, outcropping limestone, gravel,… each wine must be an clear reflection of its grape variety, its soils, its exposure,… my work consists only of respecting and awakening their qualities through vinification and maturing. Marked expressions of the fruit, with a noble dense and silky substance, well worked balance and length, so many characteristics which in my opinion distinguish great wines.
In order to achieve this, a close collaboration with winegrowing friends is essential. None of this project would be possible without the very special relationships that I have forged with each of them. For each new harvest, I intervene as discreetly as possible in their organization, and together we find ways to achieve our respective goals and create additional expertise through our exchanges. As a winegrower myself, I know the real heroes of this new adventure are my winegrowing partners.
As for my style, I want to propose wines that are proudly accessible, each of them ready to drink but equally ready to age and evolve. Their prices reflect both my commitment to my winegrowers for a fair remuneration for their organic grape production, to the wine loving consumers by offering them wines at reasonable and stable prices, but also to my friends, wine merchants, distributors and importers allowing them to achieve a profitable margin.
Today’s selection is comprised of 3 expressions of Pomerol, 2 expressions of Saint-Emilion, 1 of Puisseguin Saint-Emilion, 1 of Montagne Saint-Emilion, and 2 of Bordeaux of course existing in 2 colors.
